Acer Desktop Won’t Turn ON (8 Ways to Fix)

I sat in front of my Acer desktop, my heart sinking as I pressed the power button once again, hoping for a flicker of life. But to my dismay, nothing happened.

My Acer desktop won’t turn on. The familiar hum and glow that usually greeted me were absent, leaving me puzzled and frustrated.

So, I decided to research online and try a few troubleshooting myself. After a few hours, I got it working back correctly.

In this article, I’ll walk you through why your Acer monitor won’t turn on and how you can fix it to work again.

Let’s get started!

How to Fix Acer Desktop Won’t Turn On

Here are possible solutions you should try to resolve your Acer desktop that won’t turn on.

Acer Desktop Won’t Turn ON

#1. Check Power Connection

When your Desktop isn’t turning on, first you should check all the wires, especially the power cord, to ensure it is securely connected to the computer and power outlet.

Sometimes the power cables might not be connected properly and prevent your desktop computer from turning on.

So, you should check all the wires, or you can disconnect the power cord and plug in firmly to the computer at the other end of the socket.

#2. Change Power Cord

A faulty PC power cord can also be a common reason if your Acer monitor isn’t turning on. You should check the cable length to ensure it is not damaged or broken.

If the cable is physically broken, you have to replace it with a new one and check if the computer works.

Another method you can try the power cable with another device/ PC and check if it powers on the device.

If the power cord doesn’t switch on the other computer, it is faulty and must be replaced with a new compatible one.

#3. Reset the Computer

Performing a factory reset for your desktop computer also will be a possible solution and will help it to turn back on.

Resetting the computer will remove the system bugs/glitches and refresh it to work correctly.

Here is how you can reset your Acer computer:

1. Unplug the power cable of your computer.

2. Detach the HDMI or VGA cables connected to the device.

3. Then press and hold the power button from the PC.

4. While holding the power key, plug in the power cable.

5. The LED will start blinking and count the blinking five times.

6. Now, release the button, and the computer is reset to its factory default settings.

However, if this method doesn’t fix your Acer desktop computer, you should look at other possible solutions mentioned below.

#4. Check Power Source

A power source you use for your computer should be working correctly to turn it on. If the power outlet/ socket isn’t providing electricity or providing too low a current, you should fix it.

You can check the power outlet by plugging a lamp into it; if the lamp doesn’t turn on, your power socket that the computer is using is faulty.

You can contact a professional technician to get the socket working back properly. Also, you can use another power source that you know is working correctly.

#5. Change CMOS Battery

If your desktop PC is still not turning on after fixing the power supply, you should clean/ replace the computer’s CMOS battery.

The CMOS batteries are also known for coin-cell, and they help the BIOS or UEFI to record basic configuration settings.

If the coin-cell battery is faulty, your computer might face issues in turning on or not remembering the settings.

So, you should remove the coin cell from the computer and clean it with a lint-free cloth. Then insert it into the battery slot again to ensure the computer works.

However, if cleaning does not resolve the problem, replacing the coin cell with a new one is worth it.

#6. Clean RAM/ Memory

In the end, you should try the cleaning method for your computer RAM/ memory because, over time, using the device can cause dirt or debris to accumulate on the RAM.

The RAM is a temporary memory where your computer stores data and needs to strive quickly.

And the dirt accumulated on the RAM will prevent the desktop from processing this memory/ or stored data, resulting in the desktop not turning on.

Here is how you can clean your RAM stick:

1. Locate your computer RAM stick and remove it from the memory slot.

2. Now, you can clean it with a lint-free cloth or use rubbing alcohol.

3. You should also clean the RAM slot with a clean/ soft brush.

3. Then, insert the RAM stick back into the memory slot.

Once you’ve cleaned the computer memory, plug it into the power and turn it on to check if it is working.

#7. Power Supply Switched Off

You should also consider looking at the power supply power switch because you might have accidentally turned it off while cleaning or moving the desktop to another place.

Access the computer power supply and carefully check the power button to ensure it is not turned off.

#8. Contact Customer Support

If you’ve tried all of the methods but still your computer isn’t turning on, you should check the computer for physical damage, or the motherboard will be the reason for this problem.

For a damaged or malfunctioning computer, you should contact the Acer customer support team to get it working back.

The support team will deeply look into this problem and provide you with other possible solutions for your device.
